The Boldness of a Son

Psalm 65:4(a) “Blessed is the man whom you choose and cause to approach you.”

There is nothing that gladdens God’s heart more than seeing His sons, whom He redeemed with such a price, take their place before Him as His sons, recognising His Fatherhood and thus making their requests.

A father’s chief joy is seen most when his children come before him with the freedom of loved ones and, with confidence, approach him as their Father and ask things they need of him. He is only too glad to give them because, by so doing, they portray him as a good and loving father.

1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

When you trust in the love of God on your behalf, love Him in return and approach Him with the confidence of a son, this glorifies Him, but when you come as a beggar, you dishonour him. The blood of Jesus makes you worthy, and that blood is there speaking better things concerning you. The Pharisees had a proud approach, boasting in their self-righteousness and good works, but a bold approach is to recognize that God is the One who justifies the ungodly, and it is not of works lest any man should boast.

Hebrews 4:16, Hebrews 10:18-21 and 1 John 3:19-21 are scriptures that should rejoice in the heart of any man.

Hebrews 4:16 Living Bible

16 So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive his mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.

Hear the Living Bible Translation of Hebrews 10:18-22

“Now, when sins have once been forever forgiven and FORGOTTEN, there is no need to offer more sacrifices to get rid of them. And so, dear brothers, now we may walk right into the very Holy of Holies, where God is, because of the blood of Jesus. This is the fresh, new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us by tearing the curtain his human body to let us into the holy presence of God. And since this great High Priest of ours rules over God’s household, let us go right into God himself, with true hearts fully trusting him to receive us because we have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean and because our bodies have been washed with pure water.”

Glory! That causes my heart to turn over in awe and wonder!

1 John 3:19-21 Amplified Bible

19 By this we will know [without any doubt] that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart and quiet our conscience before Him 20 whenever our heart convicts us [in guilt]; for God is greater than our heart and He knows all things [nothing is hidden from Him because we are in His hands]. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not convict us [of guilt], we have confidence [complete assurance and boldness] before God;

I really love Ephesians 3:2 (Williams Translation). Hear it: “By union with Him and through faith in Him, we have a free and confidential introduction to God.”

A confidential introduction to God! A sponsorship. Our High Priest is there for us.

How does it sound to you? Your approach to God determines what you can ask for. Some people think God will feel they are becoming too burdensome to ask him for certain things. You are to ask for all and everything you need.

John 14:13-14 King James Version

13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

What privilege in prayer if only we grab it? That single verse contains unlimited possibilities in prayer. You are God’s special INVITEE; you are his own guest. He invites you to his unlimited presence. No one is more wanted or better welcome than you into His presence. Take a look at the passage below from Ephesians 3:17-19;

“So that you with all God’s people MAY BE STRONG ENOUGH to grasp the IDEA of the breadth and length and height and depth, yes, to come at last to know the love of Christ, although it far surpasses human understanding, so that you may be filled with the perfect fullness of God!”

I pray, God, that your spirit man be strong enough to grasp the idea of your reception at His throne. The throne of love. The throne of unmerited favour. The throne of mercy.

Hebrews 4:16 Living Bible

16 So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive his mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.

Hebrews 4:16 makes it clear that God is waiting for his children in the place of mercy and not the place of judgment. This should give you confidence to approach him even when you mistakenly do wrong; don’t run from Him. He is waiting to show you mercy. Let me show you more light on this.

Exodus 25:20 -22

“And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings above, covering THE MERCY SEAT with their wings, and they shall face one another; the faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat. You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you. AND THERE I WILL MEET WITH YOU, AND I WILL SPEAK WITH YOU FROM ABOVE THE MERCY SEAT, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.”

James 2:13

“For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy.

MERCY TRIUMPHS OVER JUDGEMENT”

Micah 7:18

“Who is a God like you pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? HE DOES NOT RETAIN HIS ANGER FOREVER, BECAUSE HE DELIGHTS IN MERCY”

Matthew 9:12-13

But when Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means. ‘I DESIRE MERCY AND NOT SACRIFICE. For I did not come to call the righteous but sinners, to repentance.”

These scriptures ring loud and clear with a message: GOD WILL RATHER SHOW MERCY TO MAN THAN JUDGE MAN! God is more willing to be merciful than He is to judge.

David said if God will mark iniquity, no one can stand, but the mercy of God provides forgiveness for the repentant ones.

Listen, I know that Christians are more eager to judge an erring brother than we are to show mercy to such one, but I have news for you: God is rather willing to forgive such people.

When people have missed it, they ought not to run from God but to run to Him. There is mercy for you there if you are His. God is waiting for unbelievers on the throne of judgment, but for His child, He is waiting at the place of mercy.

Anytime you enter His presence, remember that, as far as you are concerned, there is mercy waiting for you, making you go in with confidence and boldness like a beloved son. That is what you are if you are born again.
