TRUTHS ABOUT THE COVENANT

Dearly Beloved,

Let me share with you briefly today some truths about the covenant.

“My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.” – Psalm 89:34

1. The covenant is for crisis and contradictory times and seasons, not for normal times. It is for the time of crisis and contradictory seasons.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” – Isaiah 43:2

When things are not okay, that’s when you need your covenant – That’s when you pull on the covenant and make a demand. When things are okay, you just enjoy normally, but when there is a crisis, then you pull on the covenant. For example, if you have a tenancy agreement with your landlord, as long as everything is okay, you don’t worry, but if there is anything that is disturbing that situation, then what do you do? You pull the agreement.

2. The covenant enlarges you beyond yourself.

“The Lord your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as numerous as the stars of heaven.” – Deuteronomy 1:10

If it’s a righteous covenant, it adds to you and multiplies you. If it’s a negative demonic covenant, it reduces you somewhere – Although, on the surface, it looks like it adds to you. But just taking that phrase, covenant enlarges you beyond yourself. That’s one of the reasons people go into covenanting either with God or the devil. They want something that takes them beyond themselves, whether adding to them or multiplying them. When you cut the covenant with God, it will add to you and multiply you. But if it’s with the devil, it begins to divide you behind the scenes – that’s what is dangerous there.

3. A covenant will bring about obligations and responsibilities upon both parties.

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” – Mark 12:30

Since I mentioned parties, it means a single person cannot cut a covenant with himself. Though you can cut a covenant with the members of your body – the Bible tells us that Job cut a covenant with his eyes, so you can make a covenant with the members of your body. So, a covenant brings obligations and responsibilities upon both parties.

You are blessed!

Till next time, go and win with Jesus.
