John 16:5-7

5  But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6  But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

What Jesus meant here was that for Him to go away is advantageous to us. He then went on to say there is someone whose presence is even more advantageous to us than His own presence. This means that the Holy Spirit is our advantage and we must understand Him as such. No matter the situation or circumstance you confront or find yourself in, the Holy Spirit automatically gives you an advantage if you enter into a partnership with Him. The advantage the Holy Ghost brings does not happen automatically, you have to activate and work it out for yourself. Knowing this, Paul said:

2 Corinthians 2:11

11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices

You have an advantage over the enemy anytime you can spring a surprise on him and that is what the Holy Ghost has come to do for us, to give us an advantage. Whatever you are dealing with – ministry, marriage, finances, career, anything, the Holy Ghost is in our lives to give us an advantage. Many people claim to know God but they don't know Him according to the Bible. If you really know God according to the Bible, you won't have any problem with the baptism of the Holy Spirit or about the Holy Spirit as a person. You won't have any problem with Jesus being God and man at the same time.

If you are going to operate in safety regarding anything spiritual, you must do it according to the scriptures, and the scriptures tell us that the Holy Spirit is our advantage. You must make the Holy Spirit your advantage in a vital sense. The Holy Ghost is God on the earth and God in action. If the Holy Ghost is now dwelling in us, imagine the great advantage He will bring to us.

John 16:7 AMP

7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

It means the Holy Spirit in our lives will make us profitable. Whatever you do, in partnership with the Holy Spirit, will become profitable. The Holy Spirit manifests as – the Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby. If the normal electric power supplied to your home goes off and you have a standby generator, it automatically kicks in and starts to work. In the same way, if the biological process of our bodies shut down or something happens, the Holy Ghost is our standby to keep functioning.

Romans 8:11

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

If you look at the word 'expedient' in John 16:7, it means 'to our advantage'. The Holy Ghost is there to make sure that we get over any obstacle. The word advantageous means 'fit or suitable for His purpose'. No matter what you want to do, the Holy Ghost is the proper assistance and proper help that God has prepared for you.

Let’s look at a number of things that the Holy Spirit represents to you:

  1. He gives you the advantage.

He either shows up as the Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, or Standby. During this period, I pray that you will know and enjoy the Holy Spirit in a new and deeper way! Ensure that you build a relationship with Him.

John 16:8-13

8  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9  Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10  Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

We don't deny facts but we enforce a higher fact – the truth of the Word of God. The way God looks at life is called Truth while the way man looks at life is called fact. When God calls the things that be not as though they were, He is calling things that are existing in another plane to the earth.

  1. He represents the presence of Jesus to us today as believers.

John 14:18

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The first level of Jesus’ coming back is coming back in the Holy Spirit. Therefore, if you have the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you have the first leg of Jesus’ coming back because He is the one that is representing Jesus and the healer and deliverer to us today.

  1. He helps our infirmities.

Romans 8:11

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The Spirit we are talking about has overpowered death. How much more do you think that Spirit will quicken you? Cancer, diabetes, and other medical conditions may not be curable to men but none of them is as powerful as Jesus. He can raise your body from the hand of that sickness. The Holy Spirit has come to quicken our mortal bodies so we must never think of a condition as terminal. He raised Jesus from the dead, so there is no sickness or condition that He cannot handle.

  1. He makes us spiritual.

The Holy Spirit makes us supernatural through the gifts of the spirit and He makes us spiritual through the fruits of the spirit. God has both power and righteousness. We are not following power but righteousness. Correct righteousness will be backed up by power, so we must develop the two sides of the Holy Spirit – maturity and power.

  1. He makes us authoritative through the manifestation of the callings in the Body of Christ.

Ephesians 4 describes the five offices available in the calling and as a child of God, you must strive to experience all that God has for you.

  1. He empowers us for what God has for us.

God has an assignment, a job, and a destiny for you. Acts 1:8, 10:38, Luke 2:34.

  1. He helps us with what God has for us.

Romans 8:9-10

9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Sometimes, you are not ready for what God has for you or God is still working on the details and if you are patient, He will give you the details.

  1. He helps us to overcome the flesh

John 14:26

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:13

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

I pray for you that the anointing of the Holy Spirit will go with you and you will enjoy the multifaceted ministry of the Holy Spirit. He will come to bear for you in this period! It is well with you. Stay blessed and stay in the love of God!

Keep yourself safe and practice all that the health experts have said. No unnecessary travels; stay where you are, God is there with you.

Most importantly, keep the Word of God in your mouth as you move around!

Remember, you are HIS! Hidden, Impregnable, and Strengthened!

See you on the other side, victorious and praising the Lord.

Till then, go and win with Jesus!
