DEVELOPING INTIMACY WITH GOD

Rev. Olusola Areogun

Deuteronomy 29:29 KJV

29 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Psalm 25:14 KJV

14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Look at these three words: Intimacy, Accuracy and Impact. Intimacy will birth accuracy; accuracy will birth impact. Intimacy with the Lord will produce accuracy in your life, and accuracy in your life will produce impact. This is very important. If you develop this, it will be one of the greatest tools for success and effectiveness that you can have on earth.

As a child of God, you live most of the time in a demonic atmosphere. When we come to God, we come into an anointed atmosphere. That is why God wants us to understand that when we come to church, we must receive enough from His presence to dominate in the demonic atmosphere we are functioning in. The degree of demonic operation in the atmosphere that we are functioning in differs from one person to another.

Here are some steps in entering into intimacy with God.

1. Enter into a relationship with God. That relationship is called being born again. If you try to apply the word without being born again, it will get you into intimacy with the devil. You get intimate with three categories of people in the spirit or in the physical:

a. Who you pray to;

b. Who you pray for; and

c. Who you pray with.

You get intimate with them spiritually and supernaturally. For example, supernatural intimacy begins to draw you together as soon as you pray for somebody.

My wife and I pray together almost every time. If I see her praying, I’ll start praying. If she sees me praying, she joins me in praying. So, intimacy is just woven into our lives. I pray with my pastors so we are close to each other.

2. Your relationship as a born-again gives you an invitation to an experience. That relationship is like the wedding day that gives a couple a legal licence to enjoy each other. But how much you enjoy each other will be affected by a number of things.

Intimacy is not a gift; intimacy is a reward. Many of us are in trouble today because we have brought people into our intimacy that did not pay the price of loyalty. Intimacy is a reward you give to somebody who has paid a price of loyalty. Loyalty is the willingness of somebody to sacrifice their personal interest for the interest of the person they claim to be loyal to.

When you get born again, you have an official invitation to a fellowship with Deity that you need to service. And that fellowship can be in varying degrees. For example, you might have been around some men of God; their closeness to God is palpable, and you could feel it.

How To Service Your Relationship With God

1. Separation.

Mark 1:35 KJV

35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

There is no intimacy without separation. Jesus separated from His usual environment where people were present; He withdrew. You don’t see a woman get pregnant in public. The secret things are done in secret.

2. You must have a place because that separation involves privacy—no public intimacy. There are certain things you cannot do with your wife in public. There are certain things you cannot do and discuss in public.

3. Time.

Exodus 24:12 KJV

12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

You need time to develop intimacy. There is no hurrying in developing intimacy. Many people get into trouble being in a hurry to make friends. You need time.

4. Intimacy will involve a price. You have to pay the price. It will be costly. It was not cheap. A walk with Deity is the most expensive experience for a human being to have.
